The name of the village, Lanjaron, is invariably associated with water. Not surprisingly since there are numerous springs here, all nourished by the Sierra Nevada's snow, which is situated within the municipality. Among the landmarks worth mentioning are the spa building (constructed during the first half of the 20th century in Neo-Mudejar style) with it's two flanking towers; the church built during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries under the patronage of Our Lady of the Incarnation (built to replace the church previously burned down as a result of the events of 1568); a castle ruin (although you can't really call it a castle as only the exterirr walls remain) located outside the urban center of the village. El Castaño is situated halfway between the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra Nevada, which assures a wonderful climate. In addition, it is part of the Granada Alpujarra, and is close to picturesque villages like Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira.
